ALL DOGS CAN BITE!

The City of Los Angeles is appealing to the Los Angeles community
to help end the tragedy and crisis of dog bites.

  • Over 53,000 children living in the City of Los Angeles will be attached and bitten by a dog this year.
  • Dog attacks are the most commonly reported childhood health problem in the country- with the number of attacks exceeding reports of measles, whooping cough and mumps.
  • Nearly 70% of fatal attacks will involve a family pet.

Prevent dog bites with the following steps:

Select a pet appropriate for your family.

Spay or neuter your pet.

Socialize your pet. Obedience training will help you control your animal.

NEVER leave infants and small children alone with a dog.

Teach your children how to act around dogs.

Do not play aggressive games with dogs.

Do not pet a dog, even your own, with out first letting the dog see and sniff you.

Do not disturb a dog that is sleeping, eating or caring for puppies.

Restrain your dog on a leash or chain when outside your home.

Properly confine your animal in your yard or home.

If your dog bites someone: confine your dog.
