GOALS
ASAP's primary goal is to help the City of Los Angeles Animal Shelters reduce (hopefully eliminate) their euthanasia rates. Unfortunately, providing
basic care for abandoned animals is not cheap!
The
animals need food, shelter,
veterinary care, medication,
and grooming. They also
need an effective adoption
program so that they can
be matched with a loving
individual or family.
In addition, funds are
needed for public education
and spay/neuter programs
to stop increase in unwanted
animals.

HOW
WILL YOUR DONATIONS BE
USED?
Program
#1: It can cost over $100.00 to adopt a
cat or a dog from the
shelter. $28.00 of this
fee is to spay or neuter
the animal before releasing
him to the new owner.
Not every one can afford
this fee. Many potential
owners leave the shelter
empty-handed because they
can't afford the neutering
and adoption fees. Your
donations will be used
to pre-neuter the animals
so that the adoption fee
is more affordable.

Program
#2: Many of the cats
and dogs that end up at
the shelter are in desperate
need of grooming. They
are dirty from having
been out on the streets.
Some have ticks or fleas.
Others have allergies
and skin infections. Some
are injured and need of
medical attention. One
of the first things we
need to be able to do
is to clean up each animal,
treat his/her ailments,
and make him/her attractive
to a potential owner.

|
Program
#3: One of the most
successful ways we can find
new homes for the animals
is to take them to public
places such as the mall,
the library,
or a park. Passers-by see
the wonderful animals and
decide to take them home.
Your donations will be used
to hire staff to take the
animals out to public places
on a regular basis until
all the animals are found
new homes.

Program
#4: Rescue groups
are a vital part of saving
the lives of cats and
dogs of specific breeds.
The Los Angeles County
has a list of rescue groups
but some of it is outdated.
Your donations will be
used to keep the list
current, with the names
and numbers of contacts
for each breed.
Program
#5: Animals that have
not been adopted and are
facing euthanasia will
be placed with temporary
foster homes for a fee.
Program
#6: Animals that have
not been adopted for over
a six-month period will
be transported to no-kill
facilities. Donations will
be made to such facilities
to help them continue
their good work.
Program
#7: Your donations
will be used to maintain
an active web site where
members can find all the
current information on
our projects, pets available
for adoption, lost and
found listings, updates
on celebrity involvement,
and volunteer opportunities.
